Apple products are only designed to be sleek and attractive, but this comes at the expense of durability. Apple devices-made with materials that are not as tough as those used in other products, resulting in a shorter lifespan for Apple products. Apple’s warranty policy also contributes to the perception that Apple products do not last long, as Apple only covers defects for a limited time. Ultimately, Apple’s focus on style over substance means that its effects may not stand the test of time and other brands’ devices.

Apple is notorious for this!

AppleCare+ is Apple’s extended warranty service, and it only covers accidental damage and defects for a limited time. If your Apple product breaks down after just a few years, you’re likely out of luck.

So why do Apple products only last a few years? Unfortunately, it’s simply the trade-off you make when you choose Apple. The company’s products designed to be stylish and attractive, but this comes at the expense of durability. Apple devices are made with materials that are not as tough as those used in other products, resulting in a shorter lifespan for Apple products.

A perfect example is the Apple Watch.

I bought it because, well, it’s Apple. I can’t use it because it’s too small — my personal opinion. The only thing I use it to measure my exercise and fitness steps. Now it’s not holding a charge. Is it worth me buying a new one? No, not at all. So Apple wins again. Another satisfied customer will have to buy a new Apple product in two years or less.

It’s the Apple tax. You pay more for the product, and you get less use. But we still do it because Apple products are just so darned attractive!

Are we the fools?

We’re right where Apple wants us. Apple has admitted that its products are not meant to last forever. The company has stated that its products designed for “vintage” use, which Apple defines as “obsolete in technology terms, but cool and collectible.”

So there you have it. Apple products designed to be beautiful, but they’re not built to last. If you’re looking for a product that will stand the test of time, Apple is not your brand.

What will it take for Apple to change?

Probably nothing. The company is raking in billions of dollars every quarter, and its products are more popular than ever. Apple has no incentive to change its approach, and we shouldn’t expect it to. If you want an Apple product, be prepared to pay the Apple tax — and replace your device every few years.
